The 'Atlantic Highlands Journal' 1923 reported that about 1808 a French war vessel landed men and destroyed monument. Graves were discovered 1908 and remains interred Cypress Hills National Cemetery, Brooklyn. New Monument erected Sandy Hook 1939.
