On the 2nd March, 1939, as HMS Ramillies was approaching the Grand Harbour, Malta, Sergt C E Young, Royal Marines was struck by a swinging davit and fell overboard. Lieutenant Turner, without hesitation, dived overboard to his assistance. Both lost their lives in a very rough sea. For his gallant action, this officer received the posthumous award of the Albert Medal.
