The true origin of this grave stone is at present unknown. It was situated in the bank under the hedge in front of the old Museum at Eastney before being removed to an indoor store some years ago.
Underneath are deposited the remains of Bartholomew Chaundry Esq Captain in the Marine Service, a brave officer, an affectionate husband a tender parent and a sincere friend. He died on the 30th day of November 1777. Aged 50
